1st Annual NMSA2008 Philosophy Scholars Program WinnerChris Deszynski (UBCNM)
Philosophy Question: "What do you think Hahnemann meant by "All perceptible signs represent the disease in its whole extent, that is, together they form the true and only imaginable portrait of the disease“ The signature of disease is a reflection of imbalance in the system. If this is understood, then it is obvious that the physician's role is to trace the path from external disruption to internal disruption, carefully placing each external puzzle piece in order to view the representation of internal imbalance. A physician must understand that all disease is the innate body's attempt to maintain life despite internal imbalance, and that imbalance is not only expressed in an intelligent, predictable manner as a collection of physical signs, but also in an orderly manner. The external being works by intelligently integrating specific cell functions towards collective unit function, and thus each cell's imbalance is correlated to systemic imbalance. In essence, the only physical clue as to the origin and unique signature of internal imbalance is given by the totality and ubiquity of not only signs and symptoms, but of all external expressions of the individual being.
