Rules and Regulations:

-Contest is open to all N.D. students at all N.D. schools.

-Students will be asked pertinent questions in which students can demonstrate their understanding of philosophy which underlies our medicine.

-All essays are restricted to 200 words or less.

-All essays must be submitted to the email address provided by 11:59 P.M. Pacific Time on the assigned deadline date.

-To avoid bias, all essays will be randomly assigned a number code upon submission and will retain this code until final voting is complete for the 2009 Philosophy Scholars Program in July 2009.

-This code will also be used during faculty essay selection during each quarter.

-Each quarter, four renowned naturopathic physicians will choose the top 5 essays.

-The top 5 essays from each quarter will be posted on the NMSA website with code to avoid school voting bias during the final vote.

-The winner of the 2009 Philosophy Scholars Program will be featured on the NMSA website, and will be recognized as an "up and comer" in naturopathic medicine in philosophy, and may be featured in the September 2009 issue of Naturopathic Doctors News and Review Weekly.

-All 20 Winning Essays from the 4 Quarters will be posted by secret code on Monday June 15th 2009 on the NMSA website for students to begin reading and voting.

-All N.D. students will have a chance to vote ONCE on the NMSA website from Friday June 15th 2009 until Wednesday July 3rd 2009 by 11:59 P.M. Pacific Time.

-The reason the 4th quarter of essays is early is to allow the winner of the 2009 PSP to book his/her flights and organize a spot at the AANP.

-No votes will be allowed past this date. At this time, the codes from each essay will be removed and all student’s names and school affiliations from the top 20 essays will be posted on the NMSA website.

-All votes will be tallied and the winner will be announced on Friday July 21st 2009 with name and school affiliation.

-The 500 dollar cheque will be awarded at the AANP conference in Tacoma.

If the 2009 PSP winner is not available to attend, the cheque will be funneled to the N.D. school which the student attends.

-The winner will receive a $500.00 cheque to be used ONLY for one of these two purposes:

1) to help defray costs of coming to the AANP/NMSA convention to be

awarded a certificate for his/her achievement, which was to be announced as the Second Annual Philosophy Scholars Contest Winner.

OR, if they could not come to the conference ---

2) The money would be used in concert with the winner's ND school to

defray tuition, fees, books, etc.
