Welcome to the 2012 ZRT Cup. The cup is a collegiate quiz bowl sponsored by ZRT Laboratory, and presented by the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) and the Naturopathic Medical Student Association. This year's Cup will take place in Bellvue, WA. All rounds will be held at the Hyatt Regency.
Q: What is the ZRT Cup?
A: The ZRT Cup is a collegiate quiz bowl sponsored by ZRT Laboratory, and presented by NCNM and NMSA. Each school chooses a team of 4 players (3 minimum) and one alternate to compete. The competition is a double elimination game – in order to be defeated, it is necessary to lose 2 heats.
Q: Who can participate?
A: All seven CNME accredited naturopathic schools in the US and Canada are eligible to participate. All students are invited to compete. Students who have graduated within 6 months of the Cup are also invited to compete.
Q: How can I participate?
A: Students at any of the 7 CNME accredited Naturopathic Colleges in the US and Canada are eligible to compete in the ZRT Cup. Contact your local school coordinator or your school's NMSA Local Chapter President for details on joining the team. Each school may select its team of four players and an alternate if the school desires, or members may be chosen in whichever way the school prefers. It is recommended that each school establishes a series of intramural competitions among students with the “winning” group of students representing that school at the ZRT Cup Competition held during the annual AANP Conference.
Q: Where will the competition take place?
A: This year’s Cup will take place in Bellevue, WA. All initial rounds will be held at the Hyatt Regency.

A: The scheduling of the rounds has not been determined yet for the 2012 ZRT Cup.

Q: Is there anything else that I should attend?
A: Please note that there will be a student reception (exact date/time not yet decided) where competitors, alternates, and school coordinators will get to meet their fellow colleagues and competitors. This reception will be held at (location not decided).
There will also be a final banquet will be dinner at (location of final banquet not known at this time). At this event, All-Star Players and winning teams will be honored.
Q: What is the prize for winning?
A: 1st prize: $7500, 2nd prize: $2500
Q: What can these winnings be used for?
A: The winnings from the ZRT Cup must be used to benefit ND students, schools, clinics or the naturopathic profession. Student competitors will be able to identify a current need and request that funds be used for that purpose.
Q: Will my travel expenses be provided?
A: Flights will be reimbursed after purchase for the dollar amount shown on the disbursement sheet or the actual price of the ticket, whichever is less. Please note that funds can only be provided for up to 5 students per school. If your school has four team members, one alternate, and a campus coordinator/student coach, only 5 individuals will be reimbursed for their traveling expenses.
Q: How can I get reimbursed for travel?
A: After purchasing your airline ticket, simply send your receipt, proof of payment, and reimbursement application to zrtcup@naturopathicstudent.org. A reimbursement check will be mailed to you.
Q: Will I be able to attend the AANP Conference?
A: The AANP Conference takes place from August 15th to August 18th. Depending on how well your team advances - (see previous page for more detailed information). You are encouraged to attend the AANP Conference. Please note, however, that reimbursements for fees will not be provided. Many of the naturopathic schools offer scholarships to attend such events; ask at your school for more information.
Q: What if I don’t want to participate in a home stay?
A: Should you wish to not participate in a home stay, you are more than welcome to make your own arrangements at a local hostel or hotel. However, please note that funds will not be provided hotel expenses.
Q: Can the public attend to watch the competition?
A: Yes! Please see the schedule of rounds above, attend all of them if you can. Come out and support these bright students and future doctors!
